Room Area & Flooring Calculator
Enter your room's length and width, plus the flooring's coverage per box, to get the area and the number of boxes to buy.
How it works
Floor area is length times width. The raw box count divides area by the flooring's coverage per box. The waste-adjusted count multiplies that by (1 + waste % ÷ 100), then rounds up, since partial boxes usually can't be purchased.
Worked example
A 12 ft × 10 ft room is 120 sq ft. At 20 sq ft of flooring per box with 10% waste: 120 ÷ 20 = 6 boxes, × 1.10 = 6.6, rounded up to 7 boxes.
Assumptions
- The room is treated as a simple rectangle; split irregular rooms into rectangles and add the areas.
- Box coverage is a typical figure — check your specific product's labeled coverage.
- Any cost shown uses the price you enter; it is not a live market price.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate room floor area?
Multiply length by width in feet. For irregular rooms, split the space into rectangles and add the areas.
How much extra flooring should I buy for waste?
Commonly 10% for simple rooms and 15-20% for complex cuts or diagonal patterns. Always round up to a whole box.
Is the cost estimate here accurate?
No — it is based on the price you enter and is not a current market quote.
